A safe, supervised beginning.
Detoxification is the first and most fragile step of recovery. At Foundations Bali, we offer two medically supervised detox programs — 7 days and 14 days — delivered in a private, residential setting with 24-hour clinical care and the calm environment our clients need to begin again.
The body before the work begins.
Withdrawal from alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, stimulants, and other substances places real stress on the body and mind. Done without supervision, it can be uncomfortable at best and medically dangerous at worst.
Our detox programs are designed to remove that risk — and to remove the loneliness of the experience. Clients are admitted into a fully residential, clinically supported environment where every symptom is monitored, every concern is heard, and every hour is held by people who understand addiction from both a medical and a human perspective.
Detox at Foundations Bali is not a holding pattern. It is the beginning of treatment.

Our Programs: 7 Day & 14 Day Medical Detox
Every client is different. Length of use, substance, physical health, mental health history, and personal circumstance all shape the right detox approach. We offer two structured programs — a 7-day and a 14-day — selected in consultation with our medical team after a confidential pre-admission assessment.
7 Day Medical Detox — Acute Stabilisation
A focused, intensive seven-day medical detox for clients withdrawing from alcohol, stimulants, or shorter-acting substances. Designed to safely move the body through the most acute phase of withdrawal and into early stability.
What is included:
- Comprehensive medical intake and assessment with by our clinical staff
- Individualised withdrawal management plan and medication where clinically appropriate
- 24/7 nursing care and observation
- Daily medical reviews
- Light morning group sessions as tolerated
- One-to-one support from our clinical team
- Nutritionally appropriate meals prepared on-site
- Private room with continuous support nearby
A two-week medical detox for clients with longer histories of use, polysubstance dependence, opioid or benzodiazepine withdrawal, or complex co-occurring conditions. The additional time allows for safer tapering, deeper rest, and meaningful engagement with the recovery process before transitioning into the main program.
What is included:

- 14 Day Medical Detox — Extended Stabilisation
- Extended medical tapering for benzodiazepines, opioids, or long-term alcohol dependence
- Full daily participation in morning group sessions once medically cleared

- Introduction to 12-step principles and recovery community
- Early therapeutic work with our clinical team
- Structured planning for transition into our 28, 60, or 90-day residential program
- A Complete Framework of Care
Detox is more than the absence of substance. It is the rebuilding of safety — physically, emotionally, and clinically. Every Foundations Bali detox program includes the following standards of care, without exception.
Medical oversight by Dr. Joy
Every admission is reviewed and managed by Dr. Joy, our consulting medical doctor. Each client receives an individualised withdrawal management plan, prescribed medication where clinically appropriate, and daily clinical reviews throughout detox.
24/7 nursing care
Qualified nurses are on-site around the clock. Vital signs are monitored regularly during the acute phase, withdrawal symptoms are managed in real time, and a trained clinical presence is never more than a moment away.
Morning group sessions
Once medically stable, clients begin participating in our morning group sessions. These are gentle, restorative gatherings that introduce the language and rhythm of recovery without pressure — a soft entry into the work ahead.
Education on the disease of addiction
We believe clients deserve to understand what is happening to them. Educational sessions explore the neuroscience, psychology, and lived reality of addiction and alcoholism — replacing shame with knowledge and rebuilding agency.
Continuous clinical support
Our clinical workers — many in long-term recovery themselves — provide one-to-one support throughout detox. From the difficult first nights to the first quiet morning of clarity, clients are never asked to do this alone.
Nourishment and rest
Three nutritionally considered meals are prepared on-site each day, with hydration, electrolytes, and dietary adjustments managed in line with each client’s needs. Sleep, hydration, and gentle nutrition are treated as clinical priorities — not afterthoughts.
Private, peaceful environment
Detox takes place in our residential facility in Seminyak — comfortable private accommodation, quiet shared spaces, tropical gardens, and a setting that feels worlds away from the environments associated with active addiction.
Clear path into treatment
Detox is the first step, not the destination. Every client completes detox with a clear treatment plan — most transition directly into our 28, 60, or 90-day residential program for the therapeutic work that supports lasting recovery.
Medical Leadership: Dr. Joy
Every detox at Foundations Bali is medically led by Dr. Joy, our consulting physician. Dr. Joy brings extensive experience in addiction medicine and the complex physical realities of withdrawal — from alcohol and opioids to benzodiazepines and stimulants.
Her role is not only to prescribe and monitor, but to be present. She conducts the initial medical assessment for every admission, sets the individualised withdrawal management plan, reviews each client daily, and works closely with our nursing and clinical team to make adjustments in real time.
For families, Dr. Joy’s involvement is often the single most reassuring part of the admissions conversation: the knowledge that a real doctor — not a checklist — is responsible for their loved one’s care.
Dr. Joy consults exclusively to Foundations Bali for the medical detox program.
A Day in Detox
The first days of detox are about safety and rest. As clients stabilise, we gently introduce the routines that will carry them through the rest of their stay. The schedule is always individualised — but a typical day at Foundations Bali looks something like this.
Early morning — Nursing observations and medication round. Vital signs reviewed, symptoms assessed, medication administered by the on-shift nurse.
Breakfast — Light, restorative food prepared on-site. Hydration and supplements as prescribed.
Mid-morning — Morning group session. Once medically stable, clients join our daily group — a grounding start to the day with the recovery community.
Late morning — Medical review with Dr. Joy or the nursing team. One-to-one check-in to review progress, manage symptoms, and adjust the care plan.
Afternoon — Educational session on the disease of addiction, alongside time with clinical workers and rest as needed.
Evening — Shared dinner, quiet reflection time, and an early settle for proper restorative sleep — supported overnight by the on-call nursing team.
