Our story

Recovery Starts With the Right Foundation.

Foundations was created by people who understand recovery personally and professionally - and who believed treatment could offer more than simply getting through the day.

Why Foundations began

We knew there had to be a better way

James and Patrick knew recovery from the inside. They had also spent years working alongside people trying to find their way through addiction, mental health challenges and the difficult first stages of change.

They saw the value of structure, skilled care and accountability. They also saw what could be missing: enough time to know the person, genuine human connection and the chance to discover that life without alcohol or drugs could feel full, active and worth protecting.

Foundations grew from that belief. A small, private programme where serious recovery work sits alongside movement, creativity, adventure and everyday experiences that help people reconnect with themselves.

What holds the team together

Stopping alcohol or drugs is the beginning. Recovery should lead back to a life you want to live.

The idea behind the programme

Serious support. Genuinely human.

Everything at Foundations comes back to three simple principles. They shape the size of the programme, the way the team works and what residents experience each day.

01

Take the work seriously

Recovery needs structure, honesty and skilled support. We combine evidence-informed therapy, practical recovery work and consistent guidance around the individual.

02

Keep it personal

Foundations is deliberately small. It allows us to know each resident properly, understand what is getting in their way and shape the programme around what they need.

03

Build a life beyond treatment

Stopping alcohol or drugs is only the beginning. From the first week, residents reconnect with movement, creativity, adventure and other people while learning how life can feel in recovery.

Why Bali

A place to reconnect with life

Bali offers distance from familiar routines and triggers, but the setting is about more than escape. Warmth, nature, movement and a strong recovery community create opportunities to slow down, reconnect and begin trying new ways of living.

It gave Foundations the space to build the kind of programme James and Patrick imagined: private and professional, but never institutional. Structured enough to support real change, with enough life around it to remind people what they are working towards.

The people behind Foundations

Lived experience. Professional care. One shared purpose.

Foundations is led by people who understand the work personally and have spent years supporting others through it. Meet the founders and the wider team residents see every day.
